Processed bottom ashes from municipal solid waste incinerators as aggregates for unbound materials for use in road construction

This EAD covers processed bottom ashes from municipal solid waste incinerators as aggregates for unbound materials for use in road construction (hereinafter referred to as "processed bottom ash). After a first drying phase to facilitate the subsequent processes, the ash is subjected to a mechanical treatment,that includes crushing and sieving, separation of ferric and non-feric materials and a covered natural maturation at least for two months. This treatment, only mechanical, will allow to recover a bottom ash with a declared overall aggregated content of silica (SiO2), CaO, FeO3; Al2O3; Na2O; MgO of 85-95% in weight,a maximum value of loss on ignition value (LOI at 950±25°C) below 8,5 % in weight. The processed bottom ash may have other minor inorganic components (e.g., P2Os, SO3, K2O, TiO2, MnO.. .), without exceeding 6% in weight, considering all the minor components as a whole. As the different incineration and treatment technologies are not comparable and will have a major impact on the homogeneity of the ash and thus on its final behaviour, the above ranges of composition are established in such a way as to ensure ash homogeneity.

Typically, for the final application or use, this processed bottom ash may be mixed with other natural or artificial aggregates.

The bottom ash before the treatment described above is classified in accordance with Commission Decision 2014/955/EU amending Decision 2000/532/EC on the list of waste pursuant to Directive 2008/98/EC, with EWC (European Waste Codes) code 19 01 12.

The product is not fully covered by the following harmonised technical specification: EN 132421, The standard does not include specific provisions for aggregates from secondary materials coming from municipal solid waste incinerators. Specifically:

The following essential characteristics, included in in Annex ZA of EN 13242, are not relevant for processed bottom ash:

Concerning product packaging, transport, storage, maintenance, replacement and repair it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to undertake the appropriate measures and to advise his clients on the transport, storage, maintenance, replacement, and repair of the product as he considers necessary.

It is assumed that the product will be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions or (in absence of such instructions) according to the usual practice of the building professionals.

What is an EAD?什么是EAD？

The CE marking allows the manufacturer to freely market his product in the entire European Economic Area as well as in Switzerland and Turkey.

-recycled material is used.
